They Seem Relatively Important

Let's see if we can get an idea how important the commandments are, in quantitative terms.  I ran the following search strings through the LDS.ORG scripture search function and got these results.

"The commandments": 195 verses, 118 of those verses in the Book of Mormon (61%).
"My commandments": 111 verses, 26 of those verses in the Book of Mormon (23%).
"His commandments": 79 verses, 30 of those verses in the Book of Mormon (38%).

That's over 385 verses which refer to the commandments in the Bible (KJV), Book of Mormon, D&C, and PoGP (a very few of those references will turn out to not be talking about God's commandments).  About 45% of the verses referring to the commandments are found in the Book of Mormon.  To get some further perspective, let's look for some other interesting strings.

"Jesus": 1386 verses, BoM: 166 (12%).
"Baptism": 83 verses, BoM: 21 (25%).
"Baptize" (apparently included "baptized"): 209 verses, BoM: 94 (45%).
"Holy Ghost": 240 verses, BoM: 87 (36%).
"Born again": 7 verses, BoM: 3 (42%).
"Born of God": 14 verses, BoM: 9 (64%).
"Authority": 129 verses, BoM: 44 (34%).
"Keys": 97 verses, BoM: 1 (1%) - Laban's treasury keys.
"Priesthood": 151 verses, BoM: 7 (5%)
"Probations" (as in "multiple mortal probations"): 0 verses.
"Resonate": 0 verses, but 1 General Conference hit.

You get the drift.  The commandments of God seem, on the numbers, to outweigh in reference count any other topic that I can think of right this second.

So why not perform an experiment upon the word of God?  Why not decide today to start keeping all his commandments, literally construed, praying always to receive the Holy Ghost?  Why not decide to start searching the scriptures to find out what his commandments are?

JST John 7
16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
